It Ends With A Splash

Tuesday May 23, 2023 Lee Bay --> Great Harbor, Jost Van Dyke (Erika)

We all woke up leisurely between 7-8 am today, and ate some grub before the motor to Monkey Point for some great snorkeling. Once we got to Monkey Point, we jumped in the water for what may be our last snorkeling of this trip. We saw many fishies and made so many friends, the best of which were the two blue fishies who were fighting and the very kind nurse shark Alan met.
               Fish are friends, not food.
Snorkelers are not to be trifled with.

After 40 hours on the sea (it was Sunday evening when we were last ashore for lobstah), we moored at Cane Garden Bay on Tortola and finally got our land legs back – not to be confused with Cap’n Jack’s Tortuga. We had a great lunch including margaritas (which made the “land swell” even stronger) and fish tacos.

After a nice stroll on the beach of Cane Garden Bay, we headed back to J Dog and took a short sail to Jost Van Dyke where we moored in Great Harbor and got ready for a trek to the Soggy Dollar Bar. Soggy Dollar is in the neighboring White Bay and is a good 10-minute wet dinghy ride from the mooring in Great Harbor. This bar claims to have invented the first painkiller, and each one includes freshly grated nutmeg.

As we sat on the beach, drinking not one, not two, but exactly three painkillers, we laughed at all the drunkies walking out of the same bar, not realizing we were next. On our way out we saw one guy on a tour boat, who had been served too many, fall into the reef and have to flip-flop back to the boat.
Good thing we stopped at 3!

Our dinghy captain (Ry Dog) was sober enough to get us safely back to J Dog so we could get ready for dinner at Foxy's

After quick showers on the boat, Ryan and Alan dropped the crew off at Foxy's for dinner and took the dinghy to drop off the boat trash. We all sat at the dinner table while their drinks melted, thinking that it was taking rather long for them to return. Finally, Ryan and Alan made it up the dock and to the table. As it turns out, a big fish had jumped out of the water and made such a big splash that Alan was soaked! It had nothing, and I repeat, NOTHING to do with Alan stepping on the dock and falling backwards into the water. It was absolutely NOT Alan tripping into the water, soaking his whole evening outfit, having to go back to the boat to change, that took them so long to get to dinner. That would have been crazyyyy…

Now with everyone dry and enjoying their drinks, we had a great dinner at Foxy’s, including seafood pasta and baby back ribs.

And just when you thought the night was over, the DJ started playing the party music. Now, we all have enough liquid courage to be ready for some dancing, and when Sweet Home Alabama comes on we just can’t help ourselves. All of a sudden we’ve got the 2 step, some pole twirling, and some whatchamacallit dance moves. We get some funky music next, and the crowd is going wild. We all danced for quite some time, until we knew it was time to get ourselves back to J Dog for the night. This time, the fish were all asleep, so thankfully no fishies could splash Alan again.

Safe and sound from any embarrassing falls in the water, I am sitting on the boat writing this blog with Ryan playing guitar, Bronny singing, and the rest of the crew playing Cards Against Humanity. In my opinion, this could not be a better end to a perfect night on a spectacular, once in a lifetime trip.
